Moyer Marches to First Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Win of the Year at Paducah

by Paducah International Raceway on 05/07/12

PADUCAH, KY (May 5, 2012) - Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR grabbed the lead at the start of the 50-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event and never looked back. He went on to pocket $10,000 for his win on Saturday Night at Paducah International Raceway. It was Moyer's first LOLMDS win of the season and the 14th of his career.

Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN, the current series point's leader, registered yet another runner-up finish. Owens out dueled Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN after the lap 34 restart. Bloomquist finished third as he moved to second in the points. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY finished fourth, followed by Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL.

The race got off to a rocky start when Shannon Babb and last night's winner, Don O'Neal, got together triggering a huge pile-up on the initial start that eliminated several drivers.

Moyer and Bloomquist ran one-and-two for the first 34 circuits as Bloomquist tried several different lines to get around Moyer in traffic. A caution for Jason Feger's blown right rear tire was the break that Moyer was looking for. Feger was running fifth as his tire let go. Moyer benefitted from a clear racetrack in front of him as he went unchallenged by either Owens or Bloomquist. Moyer became the seventh different winner this season on the LOLMDS tour.

Moyer returned to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time since of February of 2011 at East Bay Raceway Park. He was extremely happy with his car's performance tonight. "The car was just awesome all night long. I could drive it anywhere on the track. We had a rough time at Tri-City last night, and the crew had to work hard to get ready for tonight. I have to give the thanks to them," said Moyer.

"I knew starting where we did tonight that we would have an advantage here. The car really exited the corners well, but when we got in all that traffic, I saw Scott there once and I knew I had better get going. I got behind Reddick and followed him for several laps, at that point I was afraid that Scott was going to get by me, but the caution came at the right time for us," said the 54-year-old veteran.

Moyer was especially thankful to Sunoco Race Fuels for powering his way to victory lane tonight.

Owens finished second in the Mike Reece, Reece Monument Company, Sunoco Race Fuels, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford, and extended his points lead to 175-points over Bloomquist.

Completing the top ten were Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA; Jared Landers of Batesville, AR; Eric Wells of Hazard, KY; John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA.

In preliminary action, Jason Feger set the Red Buck Cigars Fast Time amongst the 42 entrants with a lap of 15.690 seconds. Heat races were taken by Jason Feger, Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, and Don O'Neal. Dennis Erb Jr. and Brian Birkhofer won their respective B-Mains.

Up next for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be a pair of $10,000 to win showdowns next weekend. On Friday Night, May 11th, the series will make its first appearance at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, MI. Then, on Saturday, May 12th, the series returns to LaSalle Speedway in La Salle, IL. Both events will feature Red Buck Cigars Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and 50-Lap main events. For more information on Hartford Motor Speedway or La Salle Speedway, check out the tracks' websites at www.hartfordmotorspeedway.net and www.lasallespeedway.com.

Two Nights of Super Late Model Racing Action

by Paducah International Raceway on 04/30/12

Lucas Oil Racing Series Ready to Battle at Paducah as Part of Explosive Two Nights of Racing - Friday & Saturday, May 4-5

â€¦PIR Offers Free Grandstand Admission to All Students & Military on Friday May 4th Weekend Opener

Paducah, Kentucky  (April 28, 2012)   One of the biggest racing weekends of the year in Kentucky motorsports takes the green flag this week when the Lucas Oil Dirt Racing Series brings its national tour to the high banks of Paducah International Raceway (PIR) on Saturday May 5th. The Saturday night portion of the weekend highlights the two-night event at PIR and will also play a pivotal role on the series' championship season with some of the most talented short track aces in the nation going door to door in a battle that will yield over ten thousand dollars to the winner. Not only is the scramble for the national crown on the line, but a war within the series continues to heat up among points leader Jimmy Owens and hall of famer Scott Bloomquist. The intense rivalry between the pair, once considered team mates, has escalated as Bloomquist enters this week riding the wave of two straight wins on the series while Owens is still seeking his first series win of the season. These Tennessee veterans are ready to mix it up on Saturday night, but they'll have to deal with some other tough customers with Don O'Neal, Earl Pearson, Steve Francis and a host of other hot shoes gunning for a big win at PIR when the green flag waves and sparks fly.

The weekend double-header at PIR kicks off on Friday night (May 4) with an action packed schedule of racing on tap. The opening night also features some special opportunities for Students and Military in the region to take advantage of free ticket offers for the Friday portion of the weekend. As part of the action on Friday night all Elementary School, Middle School, High School and College Students plus Active-Duty and Retired Military will be admitted free of charge into the grandstands by presenting a valid photo ID along with a special free admission coupon available at any area Taco Johns (offer applies to Friday night only). Regular Adult tickets are $12.00 with grandstand gates opening at 5 pm on Friday and racing geting underway at 7:30 pm. Friday night's full schedule of racing includes Super Late Models, UMP Open Wheel Modifieds, UMP Pro Late Models and 4 Cylinder divisions.

On Saturday night the racing action heats up with the sanctioned Lucas Oil Racing Series battle slated as the main event for the evening complete with time-trial qualifying and preliminary races to set the field for the feature race. Reserved seating tickets for Saturday (May 5) may be obtained by calling the track office at (270) 898-7469. General admission grandstand tickets will be available at the front gate, Adults $25.00 and Kids 12 and Under $5.00. In addition to the Lucas Oil Racing Series Super Late Models, Saturday's lineup will also feature the Street Stock and Kentucky Vintage Racing divisions. Grandstand gates will open at 4 pm with racing slated to take the green flag at 7 pm. Complete event details for the weekend are available online at www.paducahracing.com.

Defending Lucas Oil Racing Series National Champion, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN will lead the stars of the series into Paducah holding the series points lead. Despite not winning a main event so far in 2012, Owens has recorded five (5) runner-up finishes in seven series events in 2012 enabling him to stay atop the points chase. Positions two through eight in the series championship standings are separated by only 90-points. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN and 4-time series champ, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL are tied for second followed by red-hot, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN and Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY is sixth in points followed by Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL; Tyler Reddick of Corning, CA; Jared Landers of Batesville, AR; and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV. Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY are just outside of the top ten. So far in 2012 there have been six different winners in the first 11 races. O'Neal is leading the way with four appearances in Lucas Oil Victory Lane this year. Bloomquist, who has won the last two Lucas Oil events in Virginia and Pennsylvania, is joined by Francis as a multiple winner this year. Erb, Landers, and Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC have also won on the series tour this year. Also, in the first 11 events, the average starting spot by the race winner is fifth. Only twice this year on the ultra-competitive tour has the race winner started on the front row.

The visit to PIR by the Lucas Oil Racing Series is one of only three trips to the Bluegrass State in 2012 making it a homecoming of sorts for title contender Steve Francis of Ashland. Francis is a former multi-time national short track champion and a genuine 'Kentucky Colonel', an honor bestowed on him by the Governor of the Commonwealth nearly a decade ago. Many home state Kentuckians will be on hand to root Francis on as he sets his sights on a big win. In addition, a pair of entries owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer will be in action with Georgia's Jonathan Davenport and Arkansas racer Jared Landers behind the wheel of the Bowyer team cars. Teenage sensation Tyler Reddick from California will be gunning for a victory driving a car sponsored in part by Jason Aldean through Broken Bow Records and Stoney Creek Records. Illinois ace Dennis Erb Jr., Delaware's Austin Hubbard, West Virginian John Blankenship and Kentuckian Eric Wells are also part of the headline list of racers who will be at PIR for the special night of racing. Local stars will be ready to defend their home turf when the Lucas Oil Series drivers invade Paducah with Terry English, Tanner English, Tim Brown, Tony Vancil, Jason Riggs, Randy Sellars, Jeff Walston, and 2009-2010-2011 Track Champion Kevin Cole all set to pull off an upset against the tour regulars. The 2012 season has been very competitive for Super Late Models at PIR with three different drivers going to Victory Lane so far. Current point leader Tanner English currently holds a three point advantage over second place Tim Brown, followed by Tony Vancil in third, Jason Riggs in fourth, and Randy Sellars rounding out the top five in Championship point standings.

REGULAR FRIDAY NIGHT RACING THIS FRIDAY

by Paducah International Raceway on 04/18/12

Hot off the heels of the World of Outlaws, Paducah International Raceway continues the weekly tradition of Friday night racing with a Full Race Program this Friday, April 20th. All the UMP favorites including the Super Late Models, Pro (Crate) Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Cylinder Warriors, and the High School Warriors PLUS the Kentucky Vintage will be in action.

Pit Gates open at 4:00 PM. Grandstands open at 5:00 PM. Hot Laps are at 7:00 PM and Racing starts at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $12 for Adults and Children 12 and under are Free. Pit Admission is $25.

With the local favorites running a limited schedule last Friday night, where does that leave the Championship points standings the first month into the chase? In Super Late Model action, Craig Smith and Tanner English have each taken the checkered flag and Harrisburg, Illinois’ Jason Riggs holds a two point advantage over runner up Tim Brown. Tanner English is third, followed by Randy Sellars, and Tony Vancil rounds out the Top-Five. Defending Champion Kevin Cole is currently in the 13th spot. Can Cole rebound this Friday night and begin his path to his fourth consecutive Track Championship?

Tait Davenport, John Tindal, and Jeff Walston each have a victory in the Pro (Crate) Late Model division. A 15th place finish by Davenport last Friday bumped him into the third spot, five points behind Cameron Brown and Credence Mott who are tied for the top seed in Championship points standings? Will Davenport return to Victory Lane Friday night or will Brown, Mott, or someone else get their coveted first win of the 2012 season?

The Modifieds have also seen three different faces in Victory Lane in 2012. JR Mason, Dustin Isom, and Randle Sweeney each have a win to their credit. Mason is leading by a mere seven points over Sweeney, followed by Isom who is currently down by 56-points. With a Track Championship up for grabs, who will take the checkered this Friday night?

Defending Street Stock Champion Tony Cruse has been to Victory Lane two out of three times in 2012. Clarksville Speedway favorite Joseph Hamm claimed the win in last Friday night’s Feature. With Mike Watson and Keaton Downing eyeing the top prize, two and nine points respectively out of first place, who will go to Victory Lane this Friday night?

Following a break for the two 4-Cylinder Warrior classes and an opening night class combination, Mat Hartman is holding the top spot in the 4-Cylinder division over a three-way tie between Donnie Whited, Pete Travis, and Michael Hendrickson. 2010 Champion Kyle Clark rounds out the Top-five in Championship points standings. Who will hold on for the win this week?

The High School Warriors saw their first Feature action two weeks ago with Daniel Edwards taking the win over AJ Keeling. Edwards holds the top spot in points standings with a two-point lead over Keeling. Eli English is in the third spot, down by four points. In a class that is hungry for competition, can Edwards return to Victory Lane? Will Keeling or English pick up their first Feature win of the 2012 season, or will a new Warrior race onto the scene?

For a Friday night packed full of dirt racing action, come out this Friday night, April 20th for a Full Race Program. Join PIR for the best dirt track racing in the Lakes area. Come catch the Racing Fever.
